How to set up Slack notifications with Lowdown

Lowdown enables you to receive a daily, weekly or monthly email of highlights from the channels you care about.

Initial setup

To use Lowdown, you must be a member of the HighEdWeb Slack workspace. Join the workspace.

Add Lowdown app to Slack

  1. Open the HighEdWeb Slack workspace.
  2. Select More from the sidebar.Slack navigation screenshot
  3. Select Apps.
  4. Search for Lowdown.
  5. Select the Lowdown app. This will add Lowdown to the list of apps in your sidebar. Slack Lowdown app screenshot

Set up your notifications

  1. In any Slack message field, type /lowdown settings and send the message.Message window screenshot
  2. Lowdown will reply with a message, letting you know that Sara Clark (our executive director) has invited you to set up a Slack email digest.
  3. In any Slack message field, type /lowdown settings again and send the message.Message window screenshot
  4. The “Your digest set up” window appears. Add any channels you would like to include in your digest email. #introductions and #announcements are a good place to start. Next choose your digest frequency and select the Continue button.Your digest set up window screenshot
  5. The window updates. Choose your frequency preferences, then select the Confirm button.
  6. Your updates are complete.

Additional commands

  • Type /lowdown settings to change your email digest channels or frequency.
  • Type /lowdown off to pause your email digests.
  • Type /lowdown on to turn on your email digests.
